The most beautiful 4x4 off-road route in Europe!

The ALP1 route is one of the most spectacular and refined off-road trails in Europe. It leads through the breathtaking ranges of the Western Alps, on the border between France and Italy, where dozens of kilometres of historic military roads remain open to 4x4 vehicles.

1350 km, 14 days, altitudes up to 3000 m

The route is planned so that daily sections remain comfortable, not exceeding about 6 hours of driving. This leaves plenty of time to explore the attractions of the Western Alps, including:

• mountain passes and historic military tunnels,
• gravel switchbacks,
• spectacular panoramas,
• alpine lakes,
• mountain fortresses and fortifications,
• villages and towns with truly unique character.

In several places the route reaches almost 3000 m above sea level, making it one of the highest legal off-road routes in Europe.

For 4x4 vehicles – no extremes, but full of emotions

ALP1 is fully drivable with stock 4x4 vehicles and SUVs. Traction is generally good and a winch is not required. What is necessary, however, includes:

• good driver condition,
• tolerance for exposure (steep drops!),
• focus on narrow rocky ledges,
• basic off-road driving skills.

This is a route that delivers huge impressions while not being technically extreme.

Campsites, food options and full tourist infrastructure

Accommodation is planned primarily at campsites – legal, safe and well-equipped. Breakfasts and dinners can be prepared on your own, while lunches can be enjoyed in local restaurants on both the French and Italian sides.

Travellers can also choose from many hotels and guesthouses along the way.
